Casting Processes for 316 Stainless Steel Investment Castings

Same as 304 stainless steel castings, 316 stainless steel investment castings with weights between 0.1kg to 50kgs are made in silica sol casting process. Silica sol casting process can control a better dimension accurancy and surfaces for the 316 stainless steel investment castings. Usually, less machining is required. Cast tolerance can reach ISO8062 CT5-CT6. Surface roughness of 316 stainless steel investment castings is between Ra3.2 to Ra6.3.

Besides silica sol casting process, the 316 stainless steel castings are also made in water glass casting and sand casting process. Choosing of casting technics depends on detail requirements on 316 stainless steel investment castings. Or determined by clients. 

Surface Treatment of 316 Stainless Steel Investment Castings

Acid cleaning and passivation treating is also required for 316 stainless steel investment castings. Passivation can made an anticorrosive layer on surface of the 316 stainless steel investment castings. This anticorrosive layer on surface of the 316 stainless steel investment castings can longer it's life time. 

Inspection and Packing of 316 Stainless Steel Investment Castings

After production finished and before delivery, the 316 stainless steel investment castings will be detailly inspected and well packed. The inspection includes dimension testing and  material testing. Some 316 stainless steel investment castings also require for other inspection, such as Ultrasonic Testing(UT), Radiographic Testing(RT/X-ray). Normally, same as other investment castings, the 316 stainless steel investment castings are packed in cartons and plywood boxes with a big plastic bag inside.
