What is the process of silica sol investment casting technology?

2023-06-09

Silica sol precision casting technology is a high-precision, high-quality casting technology. Its process mainly includes mold making, mold core preparation, impregnation treatment, drying, sintering, pouring and post-processing. Let's introduce the process flow of silica sol precision casting in detail.

1. Mold making

Silica sol investment casting molds usually consist of two parts, namely the shell and the inner core. Both the outer shell and the inner core are made by precision machining. The outer shell is usually made of steel plate or aluminum alloy, while the inner core is made of ceramic material.

2. Core preparation

The mold core refers to the cavity part inside the casting. In silica sol precision casting, the production of inner core is a very important link in the whole process. The preparation process usually includes the following steps: first, input the shape and size drawings of the inner core into the computer system for programming; then, use ceramic raw materials to prepare the inner core by injection molding, extrusion molding or compression molding; in addition, Sintering treatment is carried out to make the hardness and strength of the inner core reach the required standard.

3. Impregnation treatment

In the technological process of silica sol precision casting, impregnation plays an important role in bonding the inner core and the outer shell. Its main components are silicate, nano silicon dioxide and other materials. The preparation of the impregnation usually requires it to be mixed well with water and heated to a certain temperature so that it can better wet the surface of the ceramic when soaking the inner core.

4. Drying

Drying is to dry the ceramic inner core soaked in impregnation to remove excess water. This process usually requires placing the inner core in an oven for drying, usually for 1 to 2 hours.

5. Sintering

Sintering is the high temperature treatment of the dried inner core to further improve its hardness and strength. This process usually requires the inner core to be sintered at a specific temperature for 2 to 4 hours.

6. Pouring

Pouring is the pouring of molten metal liquid into the inner core, filling the entire cavity. During this process, specialized equipment and tools are used to ensure that the molten metal fills the entire cavity evenly.

7. Post-processing

Post-processing is a series of processing and treatment procedures that need to be carried out after the casting is formed. This includes mold removal, casting surface finishing, cutting, grinding, cleaning and more. After these treatments, the castings are able to achieve the required precision and quality standards.

Generally speaking, the technological process of silica sol precision casting technology is very complicated, requiring strict control and fine operation of multiple links. Silica sol investment casting suppliers can only produce high-precision and high-quality castings if they are well prepared and processed in all aspects.
