Let’s talk about the properties of silica sol:

2024-03-08

1. Silica sol has great adsorption capacity: the countless network structure gaps generated by countless micelles in silica sol can have a certain adsorption effect on inorganic and organic substances under certain conditions.

2. Silica sol has a large specific surface area: generally: 150-300M2/g.

3. Silica sol has good adhesion: because its micelles have a uniform size, about 10-20m/u, it will produce a certain bonding strength when it dries by itself, but the strength is small. If silica sol is added to a certain In fibrous or granular materials, it can then be dried and solidified to form a strong gel structure, which will produce greater adhesion. (generally 46.7kg/cm2)

4. Silica sol has good temperature resistance: generally it can withstand high temperatures of about 1600°C.

5. Silica sol has good hydrophilicity and strong lipophobicity: it can be diluted with distilled water or ion-free pure water to any concentration, and its stability increases with the increase of dilution; when added to organic matter or various metal ions , and can produce oil repellency.

6. In addition, silica sol has high dispersibility, good wear resistance and good light transmittance, etc., so it can be used as a good dispersant, preservative, flocculant, coolant, etc.
